Apple iPad has been a massive hit since its release, failing the prediction of its criticizers who thought it won’t be able to be popular as a non essential device. iPad filled the gap of user’s demand of a third device that can be used for multiple purpose like enjoying multimedia, browsing internet, playing games or reading books through it. After Apple set the trend with their best selling iPad, many developers and device makers are bringing their own slate like device to share the market of a new possibility. The top 5 lists among them are :

HP Slate

Announced before Apple iPad, the Slate is a pretty good competitor of it with good list of features along with webcam and USB functionality. HP slate is mainly for rich multimedia experience, surfing & reading eBooks but it lacks some primary capability like Flash support, multitasking & HDMI port.

It will run on Microsoft Windows 7 as the operating system is multi touch ready along with great support for mobile devices. Detailed hardware specifications or price is yet to be announced from HP although they mentioned it will be available later this year and will come inside the price of mainstream devices.

ICD Gemini

A real competitor of Apple iPad with some unbeaten features like 2 cameras for video calling, SD card support and larger 11” Touchscreen.

Gemini will run with Android operating system, getting the best from the most advanced mobile operating system that will eventually include Skype to make voice calls over 3G network to use Gemini as a phone too. Gemini even has Flash support and it is printer ready via USB. Prices and availability is to be announced for ICD Gemini Tablet that can bring down many similar devices once launched.

Viliv X70

One of the less known devices than the others in the market but delivers well all round features. It includes Superfine 7” WSVGA Multi touch LCD, a digital camera, 1 GB RAM, supports flash, 3G & multitasking as well as internet surfing but don’t have many features of any PC.

The battery backup is however is better than other devices of its genre, giving 200 hours standby time & 6 hours of continuous movie playback. It has up to 60 GB memory support and runs in Windows XP or Linux operating system. The device is available for a cost of $597 and offers wide range of connectivity solutions.

ExoPC Slate

It is mainly a window based tablet pc device that has similar features like netbook and it runs on Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium that comes bundled with this device. With a large 11.6” display ExoPC Slate offers a rich resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels.

It has flash support, USB support, exchangeable peripherals, Accelerometer, Light Sensor, 1.3 MP Camera, Microphone, Intel WiDi for wireless display, HD clarity video support & streaming and even a webcam for video chatting over internet. It is powered by Intel Atom Pine view 1.66 GHZ and 2 GB RAM for better performance than most of the comparing devices and tablet PCs.

There is a long list of tablet pcs that has been launched or announced to launch this year but it is yet to be seen any device than can give simplification with elegance like iPad delivers.
