New and fast UHS-I SDHC cards from Panasonic

The first SDHC memory cards based on the UHS-I standard have been launched courtesy of the Panasonic Corporation. During the recently concluded IFA expo in Berlin, Panasonic launched two UHS-I SDHC cards; the 8GB (RP-SDYO8G) and the 16GB (RP-SDY16G).

UHS-I is the standard that defines the high speed Bus interface that was developed by the SD Association under the SD Memory Card Specification V 3.01. This standard was developed to enable memory cards to achieve writing speeds of up to 104MB/s. Although both Panasonic’s cards are each rated at 60MB/s, they are much faster than the current memory cards in the market.

The data rate of the UHS-I cards from Panasonic support the writing stability required in the Class 10 speed specification. This effectively means that 3D and Full HD recording is fully supported. With these memory cards being capable of a reading speed of 60MB/s one can now transfer data two times faster than with any of Panasonic’s prior cards. These cards also feature SICS (Super Intelligent Controller) which is used to provide a higher level of data protection.

With these Panasonic memory cards one also stands to benefit from the Power Failure Protection function. This feature is used to retrieve data in case of power failure during data transfer. You are therefore assured that you will not lose any pictures, addresses, or any other important data in case your battery fails. This feature’s effectiveness has been assessed by TUV Rheinland certification and thus it is guaranteed to work.

Another capability that these cards have is the Smart Data Writing feature. This feature is responsible for ensuring that the rewrite frequency is equal on all writing areas of the card. This in turn reduces the chances of defects developing in some of the writing areas.

The UHS-I SDHC cards from Panasonic are expected in the market sometime in November 2010.
