Microsoft sends out invitations for Windows Phone launch
Microsoft has sent out invitations to an event to be held on October 11 in New York City and London. The invite itself doesn’t give any hints or details to the content of the event the wide speculation is that the event will introduce Windows Phone which is the heir to Windows Mobile.
The London event will begin at 2pm while the New York City event will an open house for consumers. CNET has confirmed the consumer event in NYC while Microsoft itself has sent out invitations to the press for the London event. Microsoft is apparently trying to make this event as big as possible.
Given the controversy around tethering support in Windows Phone, it’ll be soon evident about the details. Tethering is the feature that lets you use your cell phone as a modem for another device such as your notebook etc. Earlier in the past week Microsoft confirmed that their OS supports tethering though relying on the carrier to enable or disable this feature.
Later in the week, Microsoft stepped back from its declaration that Windows Phone 7 supports tethering. Microsoft has said that the OS will not support tethering in any form when released and that tethered connection sharing was an eventual goal that will not yet be ready for October. Microsoft has already hinted that full multitasking and copy-paste operations aren’t yet available and will come back in subsequent updates.
