iPad vs. BlackBerry PlayBook

The world has always been wondering if anything would come that would realistically be considered as an iPad rival. If you are also in that lot then you have a new here. RIM has finally unwrapped its iPad rival – the BlackBerry PlayBook, a device that is considered better when directly compared to Apple’s iPad.

As for the specs, the difference is amazing. PlayBook is just 10mm thick as compared to iPad’s 13.4mm thickness.

The weight will also take you to surprise as PlayBook just weighs 0.9lbs as compared to the lightest iPad that weighs 1.5lbs. However the weight difference isn’t that surprising since PlayBook’s 7 inch display is smaller as compared to the iPad’s 9.7 inch display.

BlackBerry PlayBook features full Adobe Flash 10.1 and HTML 5 support and thus is expected to offer a great web experience. Playbook should also be pretty compatible with every website in the future as high percentage of websites you tried to view is thought to use HTML 5. Display clarity of both the devices compared is pretty similar as iPad’s 9.7 inch display supports a resolution of 1024 x 768, whereas the PlayBook’s 7 inch display outputs at 1024 x 600.

Connecting you iPad to other devices needs the support of lot of accessories like iPad Dock Connector to VGA Adapter and iPad Camera Connection Kit but u would be happy to find built-in microUSB and micro HDMI standardized connectors in Blackberry Playbook that eases the connectivity to a wide range of devices. The HDMI output helps connect Playbook to external HD display.

The camera feature is making iPad to stand back to Samsungs galaxy tab as well as BlackBerry’s PlayBook too.

As compared to iPad no built-in camera, the PlayBook features two cameras, a rear-facing 5 megapixel camera and a 3 megapixel front-facing camera for video conferencing. This feature however no doubt makes Playbook a bit expensive but is sure to increase the PlayBook’s appeal.

And most importantly the performance; Playbook is capable of true multitasking with its 1 GHz dual-core processor. IGB of RAM and BlackBerry Tablet OS and it will be pretty interesting to find how efficient it would be as compared to iPad’s 1GHz single core processor, 256MB of RAM and iOS.
